Hän Hwëch'in (Hungwitchin) translates into English as ‘River People.’ The Hän are historically distinguished from other interior Native Alaskans (Athabaskans) by their language and their homeland which was largely defined by the mountains, lakes, rivers, and creeks named by their language.

The Hungwitchin Corporation was officially incorporated, July 23, 1973 under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). Hungwitchin aims to elevate the economic, social, culture and wellness of our shareholders.
